The Department of Surgical Oncology was established in June 2025 at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Guwahati, with Dr. Joyadithya Chakraborty. Located in the heart of Northeast India—a region facing one of the highest cancer burdens in the country—our department stands at the forefront of the fight against cancer. We provide comprehensive surgical management, ranging from early-stage curative resections to complex multi-visceral and organ-preserving surgeries, backed by modern reconstructive techniques to ensure both optimal oncological outcomes and high quality of life. Our goal is not only to deliver high-quality surgical oncology services, but also to make advanced cancer care more accessible and closer to the communities we serve.
